VMA video lands inside Spotify
Spotify has introduced a collection of MTV Video Music Awards videos through a partnership with Paramount. In its announcement (opens in a new tab), Spotify says this marks the awards' video debut on its platform, with the collection available from September 24. The 2026 ceremony is scheduled for September 27; Spotify says selected performances will join the collection following the broadcast.

The archive side leans on moments that shaped the awards, including Madonna's "Like a Virgin" from 1984, Nirvana's "Lithium" from 1992 and Cardi B's "Bodak Yellow" from 2017. Spotify says Madonna is scheduled to open the 2026 VMAs this weekend, returning to perform at the ceremony after over two decades. The MTV Video Music Awards themselves launched in 1984.
Sarah Patellos, Head of Spotify Music Studios, framed the move around how people already use the app. "The VMAs have celebrated the music video as an art form for more than 40 years, and we're excited to bring that legacy to Spotify. Fans already come to Spotify every day to listen to their favorite artists and increasingly to watch them, too, so bringing the VMA experience to the platform feels really natural," she said.

Before Sunday's ceremony, viewers can browse the official video playlist and highlights featuring nominees. Spotify says its TV, desktop and web versions gather the VMA videos into a single hub. Mobile adds more editorial commentary and discovery tailored to the listener.
The archived performances give viewers something to watch before Sunday's ceremony. Spotify's planned additions would extend the collection to selected performances from the 2026 show.
