A larger screen for streaming and kitchen viewing

Amazon introduced Echo Show 16 today, combining a 16-inch full high-definition display, built-in Fire TV and a redesigned speaker system for watching shows or making calls around the home (opens in a new tab). Preorders open today, with the standard display priced at $499.99 and shipping scheduled to begin later this year.

A remote is included for browsing streaming subscriptions, while Fire TV brings recommendations and viewing history to the display. Supported services include Netflix and Prime Video, as well as Tubi and Pluto. Alexa+ also accepts requests for viewing recommendations, watchlist additions and moving playback to another TV.

Amazon says the screen offers 10% more viewing area than Echo Show 15, while its aluminum frame is nearly 40% thinner. Buyers can also choose a Nanomatte display, which Amazon says reduces glare by more than 90% and sparkle by 50%.

Sound that adjusts to its placement

The new speaker arrangement uses eight custom micro woofers plus two tweeters. Amazon says Advanced Room Adaptation continually adjusts playback to the surroundings, including wall placement or counter use with either of two custom stand accessories. The Smart Home option within Screen Styles provides touchscreen controls for moving music between speakers and managing connected devices.

For video calls, a wide-angle 13-megapixel camera supports auto-framing as people move around, with calls connecting to Fire TV, other Echo Show devices or phones using the Alexa app. Night vision also enables home checks through Live View within that app. A physical button disables both microphones and camera, and the Alexa Privacy dashboard lets owners review and manage interactions.
