Spotify Adds Toggle to Keep Kids Music Out of Recommendations

Spotify says its new mobile switch excludes children's and family listening from recommendations and Wrapped, including past streams.

A one-tap switch for your taste profile

Spotify began a worldwide mobile rollout on September 15, 2026, of a switch for Free and Premium users. In its announcement (opens in a new tab), Spotify says users can exclude kids and family music from the taste profile used for recommendations with one tap. Those tracks are included by default; switching the control off excludes them.

Spotify says disabling the setting excludes both previous and future listening to these tracks from recommendations. The company says earlier plays of children's music will also be excluded when determining the leading song or artist in Wrapped. Examples it gives include music from animated films, family television themes and nursery rhymes.

What changes in your mixes

The setting affects Discover Weekly, Daily Mix and the accuracy of Wrapped, according to Spotify. Recommendations may take up to 48 hours to reflect the change, so mixes can look unchanged for a day or two after you flip the switch. Turning the toggle off does not remove anything from the catalog: kids and family music stays searchable, playable and available for playlists.

The new control builds on Spotify's existing tools for excluding individual tracks and playlists from the taste profile, and it works alongside the recently expanded managed accounts for young listeners. Those managed accounts are for listeners 13 and under or the region-equivalent age, and they include parental controls that can be adjusted as kids grow. They are available on any plan in many countries, and they give kids their own music library and their own year-end Wrapped.

From the listening chair

The switch separates personalization from playback: Spotify says excluding these tracks still leaves them available to play and add to playlists.
