This TCL 85QM8L is a 2026 85-inch SQD-Mini LED QLED smart TV built for the room where you watch movies, stream series and play games. Its Mini LED backlight uses thousands of dimming zones and high peak brightness, which matters for contrast and bright content in a large or well-lit space.
We'd consider this set for a theater or family room that can take an 85-inch panel. The QM8L pairs the TCL Deep Color System with the Halo Control System, and the Ultra Color Filter claims finer particle-based color accuracy. Audio comes from Bang & Olufsen, with optional wireless subwoofer and satellite speakers.
Connections and controls for streaming and gaming
Google TV is the smart platform here, with Google Gemini interactive AI and voice control built in. The Game Pack includes a 288 VRR accelerator, a game bar and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, so a console or PC can target smoother motion and lower latency if your source supports those modes.
Complete HDR support is listed, though the exact HDR formats and HDMI version aren't broken out in the specifications. Before you buy, check your receiver and console output against the TV's HDR and VRR capabilities, and confirm whether you need a particular HDMI input for 144Hz. Audio by Bang & Olufsen handles the built-in sound, but the optional wireless subwoofer and satellite speakers are separate purchases.
Where an 85-inch Mini LED TV makes sense
This is a big, bright panel aimed at a main viewing room rather than a bedroom or close seating setup. Wide viewing angles and high brightness help when seats spread beyond center, and the 85-inch screen means you'll want several feet between couches and the stand.
Our advice is to measure your wall, stand width and seating distance before ordering anything this large, and skip it if your room can't take the footprint or if you don't need this level of brightness and dimming zone count. At 4.2 out of 5 from 107 reviews, the rating is solid but not spotless, so read through the full reviews for your own priorities.
The QM8L is $2,497.99 against a typical $2,725.29 over the last 90 days, an 8 percent drop.
