The Sony ULT Field 1 Wireless Bluetooth Portable is built for listening away from a wall outlet. Its rechargeable battery runs up to 12 hours, which is enough for a long afternoon outside or a full evening on the deck.
We'd consider it a strong fit if you want a small speaker you can carry by a detachable multi-way strap and set down almost anywhere. Pressing the ULT button boosts the bass, so it can carry a beat outdoors without sounding thin.
The black version is nine by four by four inches, so it fits in a backpack side pocket or on a kitchen counter without much fuss. The same model also comes in Off White, Forest Gray and Orange if black is not your preference.
Bluetooth pairing and the stereo pair question
Your phone or tablet connects over Bluetooth, and the built-in microphone uses echo canceling for hands-free calls. That means the speaker can pull double duty for a conference call or a group chat without passing a phone around.
If you want true left and right separation, the stereo pair feature can link a second ULT Field 1, but that requires buying another unit. Check whether the phone or laptop you plan to use supports the Bluetooth profile you need before pairing.
We'd skip it if you need Wi-Fi streaming, voice-assistant control or a wired input for a turntable. This is a Bluetooth portable speaker first, so those wired and network sources are outside what it covers.
Where the IP67 rating earns its keep
The IP67 rating covers water, dust, rust and shock, so a splash by the pool or a dusty campsite table is not an instant problem. That durability is the main reason to pick this over a cheaper indoor-only speaker.
The sound diffusion processor spreads audio through DSP, which helps fill a patio or small room from a single unit. It will not replace a full home theater setup for movie night, so keep expectations tied to a portable speaker.
The current price is $88.00 against a typical price over the last 90 days of $99.96. With 2,889 ratings averaging 4.7 stars, that is a modest but real drop on a well-reviewed portable.
From source to room: a Bluetooth phone or tablet, a waterproof portable speaker, and a patio, kitchen or campsite where you want sound without a power outlet.
Before you buy, confirm the strap attachment point suits how you plan to carry it and that you are comfortable charging over the included connection rather than a dock.
